World Water Day Photo Competition 2024

Enter our Peace Photo Competition in celebration of World Water Day 2024.

Entries close Saturday 16th March. All ages welcome!

Water for Peace

The theme of the United Nations World Water Day 2024 is ‘Water for Peace’. This is because where water is scarce or polluted tensions rise and spark conflict. Did you know that 2.2 billion people still live without safely managed drinking water, including 115 million people who drink surface water? (WHO/UNICEF, 2023).

In West Auckland we have clean drinking water and most of the time our water supply is plentiful. But due to old wastewater and stormwater drainage systems, the Whau River is unclean. Still, it is beautiful and can bring a sense of Peace at times.

Can you capture Peace with your camera or phone? Does your photo give a sense of place, of the Whau and its streams?

Go on! Get your creative on and start searching for that perfect picture!

Pro tips

Possible locations

Don’t forget that a rich and diverse network of streams flow to the Whau River. This map shows the waterways in the Whau River Catchment Area. If we’ve missed one, let us know! And of course there’s always the Whau River itself.

You may find that exploring the network of streams flowing to the Whau River can be an interesting experience. We hope that as you wander you stumble upon hidden gems that will inspire tranquility and harmony. Think water babbling or lush greenery – there’s no shortage of opportunities to capture the essence of Peace near or on the Whau!
