Milestone Reached: Piling Completed

The last piles have been placed in the ground and the digger is off

The alignment piling for Te Whau Pathway has now been completed, marking a significant step forward for the project.

Over the past 21 months, the piling crew has travelled 920 metres and installed 246 piles. The final piles were driven on Tuesday 30 September, and by Wednesday lunchtime the team had finished up and exited the pathway at Horowai. With the digger off-site and the piling tracker complete, this phase of the work is now finished – and our pile tracker can now read DONE!

The piling has been a substantial undertaking involving many engineers and ground staff over its duration. Their persistence and collaboration have carried the project through technical challenges and demanding conditions.

With piling complete, attention now turns to the next stage — installing the decking, substrate, balustrade, and lighting. These works will build on the solid foundation already in place and bring the pathway closer to its finished form. Each step takes Te Whau Pathway nearer to becoming a safe, accessible, and lasting connection along the Whau River for generations to come.
