Temporary Closure at Roberts Reserve

Horowai construction site

From Monday 18 August 2025 HEB Construction will be making the final push for the boardwalk. The lower part of the reserve will be fenced off and used as a temporary carpark for the big diggers and other beastie machines. So, no public access there for a bit – but Roberts Field will still be open for walks, kick-arounds and yarn time in the sun.

The Tiroroa Esplanade track will stay partly open, but you won’t be able to get through to Roberts Field. We’re getting the spot ready for the BIG CLICK – when the last bit of boardwalk finally reconnects to land.

Our three trusty construction machines (that have been slugging away for 18 months!) will do their last lap in October, cruising out via Roberts Road. After that, we’ll finish the tracks at Roberts Road and Bridge Ave, give everything a bit of a spruce-up and get it all looking flash.

If all goes well, you’ll be strolling, biking, or cartwheeling along the new boardwalk early 2026. Cheers to the locals for putting up with the mud and noise – you’re all gonna love the finished mahi!

Amy O’Donnell from HEB Construction talks about the closure in this short video.
