Some surprises for locals on a guided tour of the pathway
Yesterday residents of Bridge Avenue and surrounding streets had a guided tour of the two sections currently being built. It was a great turn out with about 60 locals attending. Amy O’Donnell, Project Manager at HEB Construction, gave a short presentation on the progress of the pathway and then gave a tour along the Horowai Connection (between Bridge Avenue and Roberts Road). Locals were then invited to walk on the Northwestern Connection which links the pathway from Bridge Avenue to SH16 and the Northwestern Cycleway. Dai Bindoff, David Nelson and Graeme Campbell and Tony Miguel from Te Whau Pathway Environment Trust also attended the event.

Needless to say, people were impressed! But don’t take our word for it. Check out the comments below. Shout out to HEB Construction for organising this day and to the weather for pausing the drizzle!
You see the short bit all the time from the motorway but you don’t realize how long that second piece is. It’s pretty amazing! I’m really excited for it to be finished and to be able to get all the way to Roberts Field without having to go in the traffic.

Where we see it from our boat, the bit near the motorway, it looks quite steep. But it’s not. It’s a really gradual incline, which blew me away. I expected it to be – you know – rather difficult for oldies. But it’s not!
Fay Nelson, Te Atatū Boat Club

We live walking distance away from the site and we’ve been coming down here since work began, wandered around, watched all that’s been happening. We’ve asked questions and without exception the men and women working here are absolutely brilliant. They’re friendly, helpful, and courteous – and no question is too stupid for them! We think they’re great.
Ken Simpson, local resident

I was surprised when I saw how far in it curved. I was expecting it to go in a straight line, but the fact that it curves in is really lovely!
Ruth Monk, local resident, commenting on the Horowai Connection

It was great to see the community enjoying this facility. People have really been positive and are looking forward to it being completed.
