Young designer presented with winning t-shirt

Last Friday Tony Miguel, Chair of Te Whau Pathway Environment Trust, awarded Julia Fagavili Su’a with her winning design printed on a t-shirt at Glendene School. Julia and Tony had their photo taken along with Julia’s mum (Julie Fagavili) and her friend (Shiloh-Vicky Faaiuaso).

Julia’s artwork was one of the three winning designs that won. The focus of our competition is to help celebrate World Car Free Day and raise awareness about the environmental benefits of reducing reliance on cars in the communities that live near the Whau River.

About the winning designs

Te Whau Pathway Environment Trust awarded first prize to Julia Fagavili Su’a for her deceptively simple yet visually appealing design “Nature is Life”. Julia is a talented artist at Glendene School in West Auckland.

Voting in the Trust was carried out by secret ballot and this year the results surprised us all! Mia Moughan’s “Save the Earth” and Merekoura Simons’ “Save our Planet” tied! Both were awarded second equal with the prize money for second and third place shared between them.

The creative achievements of these young and talented girls was impressive, as was the designs of all entrants. Pictures of all the finalists are in our gallery below.
