Where | Archibald Park, Kelston |
Type of event | Pathway opening |
Funded by | The Trusts Community Foundation |
As part of the wider Te Whau Pathway project a new pontoon was built next to the existing boat ramp at Archibald Park in Kelston. This makes it easier for small vessels to access the Whau River, for around 3 hours either side of the high tides.
The pontoon is 2 metres wide and 30 metres long. The existing boat ramp was also refurbished and widened.
The Whau Coastal Walkway Environmental Trust received a grant from The Trusts Community Foundation to build this pontoon for the Whau River community. Alternative launching sites in the area include: pontoon at Saunders Reserve, Saunders Road, Avondale; boat ramp at Chapman Strand, Chapman Road, Te Atatu Peninsula; boat ramp and pontoon at Te Atatu Boating Club, Bridge Avenue (there is a charge for these private facilities).
The November 2018 edition of The Fringe covered this event – see their article Whau Attracts New Community Activity for their write-up on page 4.
Te Whau Pathway team is planning to have more events at Archibald Park – please follow us on Facebook!
