After July 2020

2020 was a turning point for the pathway’s funding. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, Central Government considered funding infrastructure projects with a value of over $10 million. These “shovel-ready” projects needed to have an immediate stimulatory effect on the construction industry, its workforce and the economy.

Auckland Council applied for infrastructure funding and was successful. Crown Infrastructure Partners, a central Government body, agreed to fund $35 million towards the design and construction of Sections 2 and 5 of the pathway.
