As part of the wider Te Whau Pathway project a new pontoon is being built next to the existing boat ramp at Archibald Park in Kelston. This will make it easier for small vessels to access the Whau River, for around 3 hours either side of the high tides.
- The pontoon will be 2 metres wide and 30 metres long
- The existing boat ramp will be refurbished and widened
- Site works will start in the first week of April 2018
- Works should be completed by the end of July 2018
- The boat ramp and a small section of the car park will be fenced off and unavailable during this time.
The Whau Coastal Walkway Environmental Trust received a grant from The Trusts Community Foundation to build this pontoon for the Whau River community. Alternative launching sites in the area include: pontoon at Saunders Reserve, Saunders Road, Avondale; boat ramp at Chapman Strand, Chapman Road, Te Atatu Peninsula; boat ramp and pontoon at Te Atatu Boating Club, Bridge Avenue (there is a charge for these private facilities).
